Effective Writing For Policy Professionals

Description: This course provides participants with practical writing skills that can be utilized when drafting policy memoranda and manuals, responses to congressional or headquarters inquiries, audit results, and other important documents to ensure well-written documents that are clearly communicate the intended message.

Course Topics: Overview of the purpose and benefits of the various methods for communicating agency procurement policies, including regulations, directives, memoranda, and guidebooks • Outline of the difference between regulations, policies and procedures • How to determine when a regulation, policy or procedure is needed • Steps to follow when drafting any type of document • How to identify the message, purpose, and audience • How to gather, and, as required, paraphrase, summarize, analyze, or interpret information • How to write and edit documents to ensure they are clear, logical and easy-to-use • Methods for ensuring the document communicates the intended message and obtains the intended result.

Course Location: 1100 N. Glebe Rd., Suite 1010, Arlington, VA 22201.

Course Length: Three days.  Course hours are 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday.

All sessions will proceed as scheduled, starting at 8:00 a.m., regardless of weather or Government shutdown.

Price: $1,295 per student.  Groups of 3 or more: $1,095 per student.  Members of a group need not attend the same session in order to qualify for the group discount.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:  Class size is limited in order to provide a high quality educational experience.  Registrants may ask to be rescheduled 30 days before the course start date at no additional chard.  Registrants may cancel and obtain a refund, less a processing fee of $150.00, at any time prior to 14 calendar days before the course start date.  No refund will be given in the event of rescheduling or cancellation 14 days or less before the course start date.
